Missouri banned the box for state government jobs only, but in Kansas City, St. Louis or Columbia the city ordinance does protect you at a private employer.
Private employers Government jobs only The 2016 executive order covers state agency hiring and nothing else, and Missouri does not stop its cities from going further. Three of them have: Kansas City reaches private employers with six or more workers and holds the question until you are otherwise qualified and interviewed, St. Louis reaches private employers with ten or more, and Columbia is the strictest, reaching every private employer regardless of size and holding the question until after a conditional offer. Outside those three cities a Missouri private employer can ask on the application.
