What is in it
One row per published employer: the record number, the company and its website, the place we can name, the kinds of work they hire for, whether the application asks about a record, when a background check happens, and the source we read with the date we read it.
What is not in it
Anything we have not confirmed. There are no estimates, no scores, and no ranking. We do not have a complete location list yet, so the place on each row is usually a corporate headquarters rather than a hiring site. That is a real limitation and it is the next thing we are fixing.
Where the source is the 2016 Fair Chance Business Pledge, the entry records a public commitment made at a White House event that carried no expiry and no reporting. We have not been able to re-confirm those, and the data says so rather than calling them verified.
Using it
Licensed CC BY 4.0. Credit "Second-Chance Employers, secondchanceemployers.org" and link back where you can. The JSON endpoint sends permissive CORS headers, so you can read it straight from a browser app.
Being listed is not an endorsement of an employer, and appearing in this file does not mean any particular applicant will be hired. Please do not present it as a guarantee to someone who is job hunting.
Corrections
If a row is wrong, tell us. Corrections go to our reviewers rather than to the employer, and what changes gets published.
