Indiana has no ban the box law at any employer, and state law blocks Indiana cities from making one.
Private employers A 2017 state law forbids any Indiana city or county from stopping an employer asking about criminal history at the initial application, and Indianapolis has since been stripped of its ordinance. What Indiana gives you instead is the strongest expunged-record protection in the country. Once a record is expunged, an employer may only ask the question in a form that excludes it, such as have you ever been arrested for or convicted of a crime that has not been expunged; you are treated as never having been convicted; and discriminating against you over an expunged record is an infraction, contempt of court, and grounds for an injunction.
