Working in Connecticut with a record

No employer in the register is based in Connecticut yet. That is a gap in our coverage, not a statement about Connecticut. Here is what does apply to you.

Employers who hire from anywhere

Where you live is not the limit for these 0.

We cannot yet name a remote employer either.

The register is small and we would rather say so than pad it. If you know a company that belongs here, it takes a minute to tell us.

What the law gives you in Connecticut

A Connecticut employer cannot ask about your record on the job application, but they can ask in the interview.

Private employers Covered Every employer is covered, including a one-person shop, but the ban applies to the initial application form only, unless the law requires the question or the job needs a fidelity bond. Erased records are the stronger protection: an employer cannot ask about them or hold them against you at all. Connecticut clean slate erasure clears most misdemeanors seven years after conviction and Class D and E felonies after ten, and automatic erasure restarted in October 2025 after a long computer backlog. Conn. Gen. Stat. § 31-51i; erased records, § 46a-80d · checked September 17, 2026
When they may ask At the interview This is the earliest point in the process a covered employer may raise your record.
