Alabama has no state law limiting when a private employer can ask about your record.
Private employers Alabama has not banned the box even for its own state jobs: the state employment application still asks whether you have ever been convicted, and warns that leaving it out can disqualify you. Your levers are expungement, which since 2021 covers some convictions and not only dismissed charges, and a 2025 law that created an order of limited relief and a certificate of employability, gave you a presumption of rehabilitation for occupational licensing, and shielded employers who hire you from negligent-hiring claims. Alabama does not clearly give you the right to answer no about an expunged record, so do not assume one. No state fair chance hiring law. Record expungement: Ala.
